M’s Big Adventure

19 Aug

Michael has been in Milwaukee for the past few days helping take care of his Mom, who recently had a full hip replacement surgery. What a great son, eh?! He had a chance to spend quality time with Mom and Dad, Anthony and the boys and Grandma C. He cooked, cleaned and did laundry too. What a great guy!

Here’s a pic of us Skyping while he was away. Look at those big lips!

Here’s a pic of my Welcome Home surprise for Michael.
Martha Stewart’s Individual Rhubarb and Raspberry Tartlets

And here are some of Michael’s trip pics!
The one that gets me every time is the one of him holding Grandma C’s hand. It’s so precious.

Kari has left LA

16 Aug

Ah yes, the friend that would never leave Los Angeles has left Los Angeles. Well, I only thought that she would never leave because her family lives here! She never actually said she would stay in LA forever. She is from Newport Beach, just south of LA. It made sense to me!

Kari has moved onto bigger and better things – New York. She is attending a graduate program through NYU. I am so happy for her. BUT – I miss her dearly. I don’t know if it’s possible to get any closer to someone, but somehow we have. In the two weeks she’s been gone, we’ve gotten closer than ever! She is my rock.

My strategy for her move was this – AVOID. How I’ve handled this whole thing thus far:

  • Honestly, I just avoided thoughts of the move in the weeks and months leading up to the actual departure day.
  • Denial.
  • During the week before she was leaving, I acted like she was going on an extended vacation. She did go to India and Spain for like three months last year. I figured this NY thing was like that.
  • Day of – cried like a baby.
  • Since the move – added Kari to my Fave Five, which she has been wanting me to do for months.
  • Watching Eat Pray Love this weekend – cried at all the parts where Liz Gilbert reminded me of Kari. There were many scenes.
  • Currently planning a trip to New York this Fall.

Here’s a few of pics we took just before Kari moved. The last pic being us walking out the door to take her to LAX for her flight to New York.

Road Tripping with The Tenth Amendment Center. Had to stop for Buffalo Jerky!

Picnic in Santa Monica. Look at our healthy stash of food!
That’s Kombucha on Tap in my hands. Ah, the good ole days.

On the way to LAX. My face – mix of smile and sadness. Kari – jazz hands!

Can’t wait to visit Kari in New York. I hope to go within the next two months! Till then, we have Facebook, Skype, email, IM, text, phone and snail mail!

Alternative to Kombucha

6 Aug

Found an alternative to kombucha! It has a similar flavor and feel, and has similar properties! It is a bit sweet for my taste, and it’s not as bubbly, but it’s something… and it’s healthy!!

Don’t mind the Kung Pao Chicken. Oh, yes.. they went very well together! (more…)

hello. BOXED WATER IS BETTER.

Shitting My Problems Away

12 Jul

In light of my second nervous breakdown, my doctor has recommended that I try BodyTalk. I had already been looking into it, so when doc said to try it, I was totally excited and already on board!

What is BodyTalk?

BodyTalk is an astonishingly simple and effective holistic therapy that allows the body’s energy systems to be re-synchronized so they can operate as nature intended. Each system, cell, and atom is in constant communication with each other at all times. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, however, these lines of communication can become compromised or disconnected, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental well-being. Reconnecting these lines of communication enables the body’s internal mechanisms to function at optimal levels, thus repairing and preventing disease while rapidly accelerating the healing process. In this way, BodyTalk stimulates the body’s innate ability to balance and heal itself on all levels.

BodyTalk can improve:
  • Allergies
  • Asthma and wheezing
  • Bladder control
  • Blood Circulation
  • Brain fog
  • Colds and flus
  • Insomnia
  • Injuries and pain
  • Headaches
  • Mental clarity
  • Stress
  • Traumatic events
As quoted on my practitioner’s website:

Imagine a world where you can actually ask your body what’s wrong with it… And your body can answer! (more…)

Yerba Mate Adventure

8 Jul

I discovered Yerba Maté about three years ago. This is the first one I ever drank – The Guayaki Pure Empower Mint Maté. Back then I didn’t know that Yerba Maté offers mild laxative properties. Boy, did I feel that unexpectedly!

Anyway, just recently, I learned the about the Gourds and Bombillas and the proper way to drink Yerba Maté. Michael and I were in Silver Lake at Casbah Café a couple Saturdays ago. The dude behind the counter suggested Yerba Maté from the gourd. $4 later we were sipping the strongest tea I’ve ever tasted in my life! And yes, I was up until wee hours of the morning. It’s said that Yerba Maté has a third the amount of caffeine as coffee. However, drinking such a enormous amount all at once… the burst of caffeine was slightly unsettling! But I liked it, and would do it again for sure. Yerba Maté is said to be the most beneficial of all the stimulant drinks.. and it’s more healthy than green tea.. so there you go!
