The Daily Snoop

Recently discovered Barhi Dates at the Santa Monica Sunday Farmers’ Market. The vendor at the SaMo Farmers’ Market said they taste like not-so-sweet persimmons! Supposedly they will ripen within two weeks, and be like the dried dates we all love. They will taste like caramel! I can’t wait for that phase! They are only in season for five weeks! I have a special treat on my hands! Just wanted to share this experience! Yum!

And if you want to try them, you have three weeks left to find them! Heads up!

Egg and toast and bacon and coffee and blueberries and GAIN. Well, I said GAIN because I see it in the background. I don’t eat Gain. Gain smells like hamster cages.

So this is the day I tested eggs. I was all excited, and did my old morning routine – Egg and toast and bacon and coffee. I used to do OJ, but it has too much sugar for me now. Hence the blueberries! I’ve found a true love in berries. They are the fruits with the least amount of sugar!

Anyway, the day I tested eggs. I had high hopes, but I figured I would be let down… and I was.. let down that is. Next day the sickness hit in the morning, and then again, the next morning.

BUT – the positive I see in this – I can still have egg yolks. I am only allergic to the whites! So there’s something!

Dinner and Groceries at Whole Foods. What a treat! But tonight, there was an extra special treat!

Out of the corner of my eye, look what I spotted!

Yes, Kombucha is back! Well, it never left some places in LA…… BUT, it’s back at Whole Foods, and that’s where I usually buy it.

You may have taken note of the recent controversies over Kombucha and it’s alcohol content. Not sure what the resolution is… still need to research that. I just wanted to get this post out there because I am so excited about this new development.

No GT’s at Whole Foods yet. I hope they come back soon. They are still my favorite. Whole Foods has brought back High Country, and one other brand I’ve never tried. It’s something!

Michael has been in Milwaukee for the past few days helping take care of his Mom, who recently had a full hip replacement surgery. What a great son, eh?! He had a chance to spend quality time with Mom and Dad, Anthony and the boys and Grandma C. He cooked, cleaned and did laundry too. What a great guy!

Found an alternative to kombucha! It has a similar flavor and feel, and has similar properties! It is a bit sweet for my taste, and it’s not as bubbly, but it’s something… and it’s healthy!!

Don’t mind the Kung Pao Chicken. Oh, yes.. they went very well together! (more…)

I discovered Yerba Maté about three years ago. This is the first one I ever drank – The Guayaki Pure Empower Mint Maté. Back then I didn’t know that Yerba Maté offers mild laxative properties. Boy, did I feel that unexpectedly!

Anyway, just recently, I learned the about the Gourds and Bombillas and the proper way to drink Yerba Maté. Michael and I were in Silver Lake at Casbah Café a couple Saturdays ago. The dude behind the counter suggested Yerba Maté from the gourd. $4 later we were sipping the strongest tea I’ve ever tasted in my life! And yes, I was up until wee hours of the morning. It’s said that Yerba Maté has a third the amount of caffeine as coffee. However, drinking such a enormous amount all at once… the burst of caffeine was slightly unsettling! But I liked it, and would do it again for sure. Yerba Maté is said to be the most beneficial of all the stimulant drinks.. and it’s more healthy than green tea.. so there you go!
