Egg Day

26 Aug

Egg and toast and bacon and coffee and blueberries and GAIN. Well, I said GAIN because I see it in the background. I don’t eat Gain. Gain smells like hamster cages.

So this is the day I tested eggs. I was all excited, and did my old morning routine – Egg and toast and bacon and coffee. I used to do OJ, but it has too much sugar for me now. Hence the blueberries! I’ve found a true love in berries. They are the fruits with the least amount of sugar!

Anyway, the day I tested eggs. I had high hopes, but I figured I would be let down… and I was.. let down that is. Next day the sickness hit in the morning, and then again, the next morning.

BUT – the positive I see in this – I can still have egg yolks. I am only allergic to the whites! So there’s something!

Shitting My Problems Away

12 Jul

In light of my second nervous breakdown, my doctor has recommended that I try BodyTalk. I had already been looking into it, so when doc said to try it, I was totally excited and already on board!

What is BodyTalk?

BodyTalk is an astonishingly simple and effective holistic therapy that allows the body’s energy systems to be re-synchronized so they can operate as nature intended. Each system, cell, and atom is in constant communication with each other at all times. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, however, these lines of communication can become compromised or disconnected, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental well-being. Reconnecting these lines of communication enables the body’s internal mechanisms to function at optimal levels, thus repairing and preventing disease while rapidly accelerating the healing process. In this way, BodyTalk stimulates the body’s innate ability to balance and heal itself on all levels.

BodyTalk can improve:
  • Allergies
  • Asthma and wheezing
  • Bladder control
  • Blood Circulation
  • Brain fog
  • Colds and flus
  • Insomnia
  • Injuries and pain
  • Headaches
  • Mental clarity
  • Stress
  • Traumatic events
As quoted on my practitioner’s website:

Imagine a world where you can actually ask your body what’s wrong with it… And your body can answer! (more…)

Breakdown Once Again

22 Jun

Dad,

Life has caught up to me again. I never thought it would happen again, but it did. I had another nervous breakdown yesterday. It happened on a Monday morning while I was at work. Just like last year. What tips me over the edge is a grueling work project that comes this time every year, which coincidentally comes right after Father’s Day every year. I took yesterday and today off work to have some alone time to recover. Recover from what though? How do I recover from this?

Kombucha On Tap

1 Jun

It was only three years ago that I discovered the amazing health benefits of Kombucha. It was one of those amazing finds at Whole Foods. You know, when you walk into Whole Foods, and you are overwhelmed with all the choices… you just want to try everything! Well, that’s how I discovered Kombucha. It looked good and it came with a list of health benefits.

The first Kombucha I ever tried was GT’s Original. Coincidentally my favorite brand of Kombucha today is GT’s. Their brand soars above all of the others because of their mastery of balancing perfect carbonation and amazing flavor. Others don’t even come close.

Coincidentally, GT’s is located in Los Angeles. Even more coincidentally the Kombucha on Tap at Whole Foods is GT’s brand!

This whole Kombucha on Tap just recently came to Whole Foods. I tried it for the first time last week. Wow-e-wow! My goodness. It was way better than my wildest dreams. Whereas the bottled Kombucha has strings of bacteria floating around because it’s a live food, the tap has no strings. Whereas the bottled GT’s has amazing flavor, the GT’s on Tap has even more amazing flavor.

I got the Ginger Kombucha on Tap. The hints of ginger were like little floral reveries dancing on my tongue. AMAZING! There were two other flavors available: Grape and Super Fruit. I can’t wait to try them too!

But Psyllium Helps Me Poop!

17 May

Last month I started an extensive allergy elimination phase. I omitted twenty-four allergy foods and eight high histamine foods, all in the goal of omitting random symptoms I get when I eat food. I had to nix about 80% of what I normally eat because on that list of allergy foods is black pepper, egg, dairy and vanilla!

Needless to say, it’s been pretty rough.

Well, today I decided that my body was ready to start the re-introduction phase of the allergy test. My allergy reactions have been gone for about a week. Today is the day!

Since I’ve been having trouble pooping, and psyllium is my savior in that category, I started with psyllium.

Well, to my dismay, I reacted to the psyllium, meaning that it is still a problem food. Next step is to eliminate it for four to six months, then re-introduce again, and look for reaction.

In the meantime, to help me poop, I will use extra ground flax everyday. Dr. Gerber also says that I may have to take other supplements. We shall see.

I will miss you psyllium! You have been a good friend and an immense help in my time of need. Bye for now.

Vegan Banana Flax Pancakes

1 May

Well, I have been struggling so much to find breakfast foods (because of my new Allergy Diet), that I’ve turned to vegan recipes. I never thought I would do this. I don’t really condone the vegan diet. However, it’s proving very handy in my time of need.

I used to eat pancakes all the time. In fact, when I lived with my friend Kari, it was our weekend tradition – pancakes and hazelnut coffee with creamer.

So this morning, I awoke with a major rumble in my tummy. I turned to my friend, the internet, and found an easy banana pancake recipe. Can you guess what I’m eating for breakfast today?!

Recipe posted below. (I added the flax for extra fiber!)

My Problem With Yeast

30 Apr

I have a huge problem with yeast! Yeast as in the yeast in our bodies, yeast. My problem is that it causes horrible problems for the human body when it’s allowed to grow exponentially to unhealthy levels. My problem is that it’s a sneaky little thing, and many people struggle for years with torturous health problems, until they figure out that the root cause is a plain and simple, yeast.

This blog post starts a series of posts about the disorder of systemic yeast overgrowth, called Candidiasis. This health condition has been such a huge part of my life, spanning well over a decade. I decided last year to start the social network, Candida Connect. I decided that I had cried my last cry, and then I formed my own support system. Below is an excerpt of what I’ve written about my experience. (more…)

Food Makes Me Happy

26 Apr

Food makes me happy. Not having food makes me grumpy.

This allergy test elimination phase is ridiculously hard. I just went through a strict Candida Diet for three months. I thought this allergy stuff would be easy compared to that. It’s easier in some ways, but way harder in other ways. For example, Michael and I went to our favorite Downtown Los Angeles spot, Bottega Louie, Saturday afternoon. I thought for sure that I would be able to find something I could eat there. Something. There was nothing. I could have ordered coffee, tea or water. Other than that, there was not a single thing I could eat there. I got really bitchy and almost started crying. I was devastated!

Michael and I had a talk about it. He reminded me that I am choosing to do this. I agreed, but it’s still hard, and I still like to bitch about it!

The other thing that is hard is my hypoglycemia. I have been having trouble finding things I can eat, so I am not eating enough. I have been experiencing the sweats, the blurring vision, anxiety, heart palpitations. I just need to buck up and plan out my meals better, and NOT go anywhere to eat to be taunted by such things as cheese, pizza, sushi, lasagna…

I CAN DO THIS.

Severely Low in Vitamin D

12 Apr

Got my Vitamin D Test Results back today, along with my Allergy Test Results. Two big blows!

I am severely low in Vitamin D. I’m at 18.5, and I need to be at 60. I’m starting a 5,000 IU supplement of Vitamin D3 tomorrow.

To retest in three months, to see if I need to take more!

I wrote a blog about the importance of Vitamin D. Check it out!

My Allergy Test Results

12 Apr

So I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. No time better than now. All the times people told me it seemed as though I had food allergies, and all the times I laughed at them…. Well, they were right! I seem to be a worse case than normal, based on how my doctor sounded when she read the results.

Now some of these I guessed on my own in the last few months – eggs, psyllium, squash and mushrooms. All others listed are a complete shock. I fought tears as she read the list.

In introducing this test, my doctor said that the most interesting allergy she ever saw, and the most upsetting, was Kale. Well, guess who (somebody you know) is allergic to Kale. Yup! See below. (more…)
